Our Second Anniversary A 2015 Year In Review

Two years ago we sat wrapping up one year and getting ready to start another. Along with the adventure of buying 48 Fields. Our renovations have been constant throughout 2015 with some pretty big accomplishments happening over the past year. There were big success (like getting power again) finally and some frustrating lows (like having that project take 6 months instead of 6 weeks). But here we are at the end of the year looking back and celebrating all that we’ve done again.

We’re already getting started on some pre-work for our 2016 projects, but here’s a look back at this year in review of what we’ve been up to over the last 12 months!

Up first, the front of the barn. Where we started this year, and where we ended. (I can’t wait to get the new windows in upstairs and redo the outside there. It’s our first project for 2016!)

Some of our fun chandeliers upstairs! And it’s nice to have, um, a cleaned up floor. Too many birds had inhabited the second level for too long.

The lights in these stairs caused more headaches. I blame building codes and mislabeled products.

New white-washed barn wood tile floors and a coat a paint really came out nice! Now just to get the ceiling reinstalled. (Again, a plan for 2016.)

If I remember right, this was 6 tons of tile!

A few fun things. Hand lettered welcome signs, a hand made pergola for ceremonies, and a variety of beautiful flowers we didn’t know we had last year when they were all still covered in overgrowth. I love that I have my own pink peony plants, even though they’re not pictured here!

Many hours in the sun went into this landscaping. And that retaining wall? Yeah, we built that ourselves!

Quite a dramatic before and after for this side of the barn, right?

More clearing. You can’t really tell from the photo, but see that tree stump on the left? There’s a piece of farm equipment UNDER it. That was interesting to get out. Seeing how wide that tree stump is, you can imagine how long it had been sitting there for a tree of that size to grow up and over it!

It wasn’t all hard work though! Steve and I had a little celebration for our 10th anniversary with a lovely surprise dinner!

Whew! What a year! I always enjoy these posts because they remind me of how far we have come with our work and how much closer we’re getting to our vision. I’m excited for what 2016 will bring and how much more we’ll be able to accomplish then!

At 48 Fields, we are a soon-to-be Leesburg Virginia wedding venue for celebrations of all sizes.
Our rustic barns and vast fields are peacefully set in the heart of Northern Virginia wine country.
